Yesterday, Police in Rwanda shot dead two Ugandans who had sneaked into their country via an ungazetted border with Uganda at Tabagwe sector, Nyagatare district.
Rwanda Police have now come out to give information and clear the air about the whole situation.
According to the statement, Rwanda police say that the two deceased are Job Ebyarishanga and Bosco Tuheirwe who were in a group of five were shot while smuggling raw tobacco into Rwanda.
The statement goes ahead to say that these became violent and assaulted the Police officers who reacted by shooting at them, killing two on the spot while the three managed to escape back into Uganda.
Rwanda has strict rules against smugglers and they enforce them swiftly. This year alone, Rwanda security officials have shot three people alleged to have been smuggling goods to and from Uganda namely, 41-year-old Innocent Ndahimana, and Alex Nyesiga were shot in May.
Ndahimana was allegedly smuggling over 500Kgs of beans in Uganda while Nyesiga was smuggling second hand clothes to Rwanda.
Last week on Monday, November 4, a Rwandan national Jean Pierre Havugimana was shot and injured inside Rwanda about 300 meters from the border with Uganda as he tried to smuggle about 50Kgs of Irish potatoes from Uganda.
