On Monday this week, Police interrupted a planned Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) meeting that was scheduled to take place at Namboole Stadium. As FDC officials were greeting their fans around Kireka on their way to Namboole, Police came in full force as they said that these officials were disorganising Kireka residents and disrupting their peace and business.
Police went ahead to splash the former FDC President with big volumes of water that nearly threw him off his car. A one Police officer that has since been identified as Rashid Agero went ahead to use his gun to crash the windscreen of Besigye’s car, among other things done to him during his arrest.
The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has come out to strongly condemn Police’s actions against opposition leaders. The Katikkiro wondered why Police would use such force against a person that did not have even a weapon as small as a matchbox.
“I saw Police shooting Dr Kiiza Besigye with water that made him fall on his car. What if he hit his head on the tarmac and died what state would the country be in right now?” Mayiga wondered.
Mayiga went on to caution that actions fuelled by anger, cold-heartedness, and murder are wrong and that people should not think that they will do them and run scot-free, saying that, “time will come when they will be questioned to answer.”
