Following week long unrest at Makerere University over management’s decision to implement a 15% cumulative tuition fees increment, President Yoweri Museveni finally got involved to see that the situation gets back to normal.

According to the social media post shared by the senior Presidential Press Secretary Don Wanyama, he said that Museveni has urged stakeholders at Makerere University to talk and resolve all issues around fees.

“He has spoken to Council Chair & the Guild President today, urging them to meet,” posted Wanyama.

Furthermore, Wanyama revealed that the Commander in Chief ordered the withdrawal of the Military Police from the university. He said Police should be left with the task of maintaining order at the university premises.

Museveni’s directive comes following a public outcry on how Military and Riot Police have been aggressively breaking into students’ halls of residence at night and brutalizing them.
