Crime preventer who murdered a suspected bulb thief sentenced to life imprisonment

A crime preventer who murdered a suspected bulb thief will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Bogere Ssenoga was today sentenced to life imprisonment in Luzira Prison, according to Justice Wilson Kwesiga of the High Court. Bogere has been convicted for murdering a one Dius Ssekimpi Lazaro.

Justice Kwesiga said the sentence is to serve as a lesson to Ssenoga and to deter other would be offenders from committing the same offence. He said it was harsh for a person who was entrusted by government to prevent crime to again be the same person committing the crime.

Prosecution led by Salama Nabbosa who led the prosecution said  on February 22, 2017 at Yesu Amala zone Nansana town Council in Wakiso District, Bogere beat up Lazaro on baseless allegation that he had stolen a bulb.

However, days later Lazaro was announced dead after succumbing to injuries he attained during the beating.
