The recently released report by Dr Daniel Byamukama, the head of the HIV prevention at the Uganda AIDs Commission indicated that only 9 per cent of men aged 40 to 49 years used a condom when they engaged in extramarital sex in 2018.
The report also showed the continuously declining use of condoms from 38 per cent in 2000 to 24 per cent in 2018.
While appearing on NTV this morning, Byamukama was tasked to explain the cause of the decline. According to Byamukama many Ugandans have forgotten that AIDS is real.
He said though young people endeavor to use condoms, but as they grow older they desist from using them. He urged the public to stick to condom use if they are to engage in any sexual act.
“As you grow older perfect your skills of using a condom. Don’t get tired, don’t be misled that HIV is not there,” Dr Byamukama said.
Byamukama revealed that the commission has laid plans to embark on country wide awareness.
