Mukono Grade One Magistrate, Patience Koburunga has sentenced Annet Namata to two years in jail for forcefully feeding her teenage stepdaughter food mixed with her menstrual blood.
In her judgment, Koburunga noted that she had reduced Namata’s sentence from seven to two years because she pleaded guilty saving court time and also requested for a lighter punishment since she is a mother of three children.
Namata pleaded guilty on August 7, 2019 during the mention of her case. However, Namata’s husband Yunus Lungu who reported the case was not contented with the judgment as he wished Namata was handed a longer jail term. Nevertheless he hopes Namata will come out a changed person after serving her sentence.
“Let her serve her time and hopefully she may learn her lesson,” he said.
Namata was arrested in June this year after his husband Lungu reached out to the area local authorities that successfully tricked Namata to come to their offices.
Sarah Namawejje, the Woman LC I representative interrogated Namata who pleaded guilty to the accusations and asked for forgiveness. However, with such a shocking revelation, the local authorities decided to take the case to police and a file was opened.
