President Yoweri Museveni has finally given his stand on the sanctions US put on one of his ‘good cadres’ and former police boss General Kale Kayihura.
In a statement, Museveni wondered why some of the elements in the opposition are overwhelmed as one of many Ugandans is being opposed by the western authorities.
“It is most interesting to see how some of the elements of the Opposition are jubilating about some authorities in the USA who have recently declared that General Kale and some members of his family will not be allowed to enter the USA in case they want to travel there,” Museveni said.
Museveni states that opposition excitement has exposed their under knowledge about issues of Africa and Uganda.
“Why do they think that going to the USA or, indeed, any non-African country is so important that if you are not allowed there, it will amount to a painful punishment?” he said.
Museveni claims Uganda is the most beautiful country on earth as he stated that, “It is actually a sacrifice for me to visit any non-African country on account of bad weather, strange foods.”
However, he said that the rest of the World and Africa need each other in various aspects but each should have respect for the other. He said Uganda is in great position to handle most of its issues especially when it comes to those who are suspected to have made mistakes.
“For Kale or other Ugandans who are suspected to have made mistakes, they will always be handled in Uganda. That is why we shall never hand any Ugandan to, for instance, the Court in The Hague- the ICC. Kale is already facing whatever mistakes he is suspected to have committed in our Courts,” Museveni explained.
Museveni’s only disappointment would be hearing that Kayihura abandoned Uganda to go and make investments in the USA.
“Investing in the USA when Uganda needs investments? That would be treason,” he said. This coming week, government is expected to table its detailed stand before parliament on the Kayihura sanctions.
