The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) set up a sub-committee to investigate and solve the irregularities in how properties that belonged to Asians that were expelled from Uganda by Idi Amin 1972 after getting numerous reports that some individuals in top government positions and tycoons unlawfully repossessed these properties and some even got sold off.
The latest individual to be named in this lengthy inquiry by the sub-committee is city tycoon Muhammad Alibhai. According to Departed Asian Property Custodian Board (DAPCB), Alibhai illegally reclaimed and later sold off these properties. Reports say that Alibhai is in possession of over 100 prime properties in Kampala and other strategic locations around the country.
DAPCB through sessions they have had with the COSASE sub-committee in the past months revealed that they have information pinning top government officials and several tycoons for illegally repossessing and selling off these properties under questionable circumstances.
What’s even more baffling is the fact that these properties sold off were earlier on compensated for by government so it is widely believed that these individuals connived with government officials to forge land titles, powers of attorney and on other occasions bribery.
Below is a list of 45 Asians’ properties Muhammad Alibhai has been accused of fraudulently repossessing.

Ali Alibhai, Muhammad Alibhai’s son was contacted to comment on the allegations about his father and he refuted them, referring to them as ‘fake.’
