RUBIRIZI FUEL TANKER FIRE: Government offers Shs500,000 to each family that lost a member

Government through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) yesterday reached out to the mourning families that lost their loved ones in the Rubirizi fuel tanker fire on Sunday.

Led by Ms Mary Karooro Okurut, the Minister in charge of General Duties in the OPM, government extended a series of relief items that included; 50 tarpaulins, 100 saucepans, 200 mosquito nets, 300 plastic plates, 36 blankets and 600 bags rice of 50kg each.

“Government has provided these items to help the people affected by the fire tragedy. We are making assessment to be able to give more help,” said Okurut.

She also pledged that each family that lost a member will be given Shs500,000 to help in the sendoff of their loved ones.

By yesterday, 23 people were confirmed to have succumbed to the fire accident but only five had been identified and taken for burial. The 18 were brought to Kampala for DNA testing.

James Luyimbazi, the Chief Administrative Officer for Rubirizi District said they have so far registered 30 households that lost property and people.
