With parents slowly getting used to the long list of school requirements especially by private schools, a new development has hit schools as parents now have to pay to attend speech day ceremonies.
In a memo seen by Matooke Republic from Kabojja Junior School ahead of the end of term speech day concert, parents have been requested to pay a fee if they want to see and cheer their children singing and dancing in the speech day concert. Pre-primary – P.3 pupils will be the day entertainers.
“The entry fee shall be Shs30,000 per adult person. Tickets shall be sold in advance to parents and guardians from their respective teachers. P.4 – P.7 are advised to stay home due to limited space. If parents want to bring them, they will also be required to pay entry fee,” reads the Memo in part.

The government through the Ministry of Education and Sports has from time to time warned schools against charging parents unfairly and increasing school fees without clear justification.
