On Wednesday July 31 2019, security operatives arrested a one Taremwa Daniel Rweishe Kabadize, Makindye on Salaama road in Kampala for fraud. Taremwa masqueraded as a State House Protocol Officer to con an investor working with a Swedish company called Butter Bay that recycles rubbish to make gas/electricity.
According to Lindah Nabusayi the President’s Press Secretary, Taremwa slyly asked for $5000 (Shs18 million) from the investor to organize an appointment for him with President Museveni and prior to his arrest, he had already received $1000 (Shs3.7 million)
“[..] after a tipoff from an official of the company, he was nabbed and handed over to security for processing. He is currently with security as his communication pattern is being reviewed to help find possible conivances/accomplices if any,” Nabusayi’s statement partly says.
Nabusayi warned the public against such conmen and said that the public should use the right channels if they want to meet The President.
“There is standard protocol through which members of the public can seek to meet The President including through official communication at the President’s office at Parliament building. We want to caution the public not to deal with people like Taremwa or his accomplices [..],” Nabusayi added before saying that they should ask for identification from these people who claim to be working for the State House, and tipoff security if they ask for money to meet The President.
