In a fight to reduce on the percentage of rural girls who cannot afford sanitary pads, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga officiated the groundbreaking for the construction of a factory that is set to produce reusable sanitary towels in Nyakabirizi Town, Bushenyi District.
In her address, Kadaga applauded Bushenyi Woman MP who also doubles as the Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mary Karooro Okurut for taking on the mantle to build the factory.
“I am happy that the issue of girl’s education is taking centre stage in the country and I thank Hon. Karooro Okurut for the initiative that is going to enable many girls to study,” Kadaga said.
Kadaga said with such initiatives, girls now stand high chances of staying in school and being more productive to society.
The factory which is funded by Karooro Okurut Foundation will also comprise of a fortified food mill and a skilling centre for the youths.
