Nigeria has third youngest squad at AFCON, Uganda Cranes are 7th in line

A total of 552 players from 24 teams, each with 23 players will be competing in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations that kicks off tomorrow, Friday at Cairo International Stadium.

Judging from player’s data submitted by all participating teams, analysis coaches have tried to find balance of experienced and youthful players as no team averages beyond 28.7 years.

Tunisia ranks as the youngest squad at this year’s AFCON with an average of 24 years.  Mali comes second at 24.3, Nigeria and Guinea Bissau are joint third with an average age of 24.8 years, and Mauritania, Burundi and Kenya follow with an average of age 25, 25.1 and 25.5 respectively.

Uganda Cranes comes seventh at an average of 25.6. Hosts Egypt are the third-oldest team tying with Morocco at 27.8.  Madagascar which is appearing at the AFCON for the first time in their history has the oldest side in the competition with an average age of 28.7 years.
