President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, has revealed that government is to soon embark on the construction of houses for all Uganda People’s Defense Forces soldiers.
“In the coming months, we shall request Parliament to permit government to source for funding to enable the UPDF Engineering Brigade start building houses for soldiers in the different barracks. The target is to build at least 30,000 two-bedroom housing units for all our soldiers in the barracks,” President Museveni said yesterday while on tour of the UPDF 3rd Infantry Division Headquarters in Moroto and the 5th Infantry Division in Acholi-Pii, Pader District.
Museveni said that the goal of his visits to the facility was to remind soldiers about the spirit in which the army was founded after the bush war. He says government is working on continuing to better the welfare of the soldiers, strengthen the system of army schools and sensitize the soldiers and their families on health matters.
The president has just concluded a countrywide tour of all UPDF barracks.
