Over the last few months there have been a lot of rumours that Police had indicated it would stop paying rent to the tune the Shs. 8 million (USD 2,300) per month for its Ex-IGP Kale Kayihura, in regard to the plush Muyenga mansion the General was occupying next to Muyenga International Hotel.
And now we can confirm that the former Inspector General of Police has left the luxurious Muyenga pad which Kayihura and his family have occupied on Police money for the last 3 years.
We also understand, however, that Gen. Kayihura has left the house (which used to be tightly-guarded during the general’s tenure as IGP) out of choice rather than being pushed out, because it is a private house that doesn’t belong to Police and which therefore he might have chosen to continue occupying provided he personally paid the rent.
Gen. Kayihura was sacked from the powerful position of IGP last year and has since had a quite torrid time, including facing serious charges in the General Court Martial as well as being rumoured to have health issues. We understand that the general, who now spends most of his time at his farm in Kashagama, has moved his family to another posh mansion in Kampala.
