Before the excitement of Miss Uganda Quinn Abenakyo making it to the top five at the Miss World and thereby emerging Miss World-Africa dies out, another beauty pageant,is on in Kampala –Miss Curvy Uganda, spearheaded by Brand Ambassadors 256 a model and talent management agency.
According to the Marketing Director of Brand Ambassadors 256 only identified as Mark, Miss Curvy is a unique beauty Pageant out there to represent the true Ugandan beauty. Mark says that unlike other beauty contests that come with taglines of someone having to be slim and of a certain height, this beauty pageant allows people to maintain their actual natural bodies and bring out their confidence.
However, even as Mark says that the pageant won’t feature only curvy Ugandan ladies, explaining that they borrowed the word curvy as a catchment area –still names don’t lie, and it would seem that the major focus of this pageant will be ‘curves don’t lie.’ Even the pictures on the pageant’s advertising posters and fliers indicate that the pageant will be heavily oriented towards ‘curves’.
“It doesn’t matter whether you’re married or have kids, this beauty contest is for everyone as long as they have the confidence, beauty and social & speech etiquette to impact the society as an ambassador with a lot of decency and modesty, which factors will be looked out for during the contest .”
This year’s finals are schedule for June, however Mark didn’t divulge to us how and when the auditions will be conducted, let alone the bootcamp.
Still, the appearance of the event on Uganda’s social calendar should excite many people, and the organisers say the event will be an annual event.
The beauty contest comes years after Mrs. World Uganda which was directed by Veteran artiste Halima Namakula who also happens to have been Mrs. World Uganda 2009 stopped carrying out the beauty Pageant. Media personality Crystal Newman was Mrs . World Uganda 2011, the last time the Pageant took place.
