The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has met members of the Association of Performing Arts led by Andrew Benon Kibuuka.
According to Kadaga, while the concerned authorities are drafting the letters, government should organise and fund workshops for entertainers. She also urged government to allocate a budget for artistes as a way of empowering their SACCO.
Kadaga promised to arrange a meeting between the Association of Performing Arts and Parliamentary Committee on Gender, so that their concerns can be addressed.
On behalf of the Association, Benon Kibuuka who was in company of Mariam Ndagire, and Hon. Kato Lubwama requested the Speaker to task the Gender Ministry to consult the Association before enacting regulations affecting Artistes.
Kibuuka says, them being the stakeholders of the entertainment industry; they know exactly what hinders progress and what needs to be regulated.
The meeting follows a released notice of rules and regulations for the entertainment industry from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development a week ago that caused mixed reactions amonst artistes and the public.
