Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi is set to address the British House of Commons on the state of the rule of law in Uganda.

The debate, scheduled for tomorrow, January 8, will feature scenes from the infamous Arua fracas in which 33 people including Members of Parliament were arrested and tortured by Ugandan security forces on the eve of the Municipality by-election to replace slain MP, Ibrahim Abiriga.

During the fracas, Kyagulanyi’s driver, Yasin Kawuma was shot dead outside Pacific Hotel and his boss Court Martialed before his lawyers, Medard Lubega Ssegona and Asuman Basalirwa successfully won the case that committed him to a civilian court on charges of Treason.

His arrest and torture plight gained a lot of momentum from the international community also generating debate on corridors of power like the UK Parliament.

A motion was moved by Stockton South legislator, Dr Paul Williams on December 3, moving the House of Commons to task UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, the European Union, Commonwealth and other bodies to force the Ugandan government to respect democracy and rule of law.

Over 20 UK MPs signed to support the motion.
