Over the weekend on Sunday, survivors and relatives of the victims of the MV Templar boat that capsized on Lake Victoria gathered at Mutima beach to commemorate a one year anniversary of the disastrous incident that claimed lives of over 30 people.

During yesterday’s weekly Police briefing at Police headquarters in Naguru, the force joined the public to commemorate the devastating day. Police Deputy Spokesperson, Polly Namaye said Police decided to do something special but helpful to mark the one year anniversary.

Namaye revealed how police has prepared free swimming and life- saving training to members of the public.

“The Uganda Police marine department in partnership with Swim Safe Uganda and Civil Aviation Authority have partnered to provide free lessons to members of the public willing to take part. The program will run from December 9 to 19th at Nameless beach in Entebbe,” Namaye said.

As we approach the festive season, Namaye urged the public to keenly follow the stipulated water transport guidelines as she said it is very easy to minimise water transport accidents.

“There are guidelines like putting on lifejackets and many others we put in place and these should be followed to the latter while using water transport as well as other safety precautions on the part of beach management,” she said.
