Woman ‘borrowed’ a baby from neighbour and took it to her boyfriend to ask for upkeep, boyfriend refused to give back the baby

Uganda can never run short of bizarre stories. Police in Fort Portal arrested Annet Kabaliisa for ‘lending out’ her three-month-old baby to her neighbour.

According to the Rwenzori West region Police Spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe, Kabaliisa a resident of Kagote cell in West Division in Fort Portal Municipality collaborated with Annet Kobusinge to falsely solicit upkeep money from Kobusinge’s boyfriend Moses Musinguzi.

Police said Kobusinge for long deceived her boyfriend that she was pregnant and last week on September 28, Kobusinge and Kabaliisa reportedly ‘cut’ the deal so that Kobusinge could present the baby to Musinguzi in Kampala as her own and get some upkeep.

However on arrival in Kampala, Musinguzi reportedly refused to have the baby returned to Fort Portal something that left Kabalisa and Kobusinge in panic.

The real owner of the baby, Kabalisa decided to run to West Division LC III chairperson, Richard Muhumuza and misleadingly reported the case saying her baby had been kidnapped.

Muhumuza immediately involved Police that swung into action and started hunting for the baby. In the process, an undisclosed bodaboda cyclist informed Police that he had actually taken Kobusinge with the baby to the Kampala taxi stage in Fort Portal town.

Kabaliisa was then recalled to Police and interrogated her. She couldn’t hide any more but to reveal the entire truth. Police arrested her and embarked on a mission to net Kobusinge and also help to return the baby.
