Bishop Samuel Kazimba of Mityana Diocese is the new Archbishop elect of Church of Uganda. He replaces Archbishop Stanley Ntagali as the ninth Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
Bishop Kazimba is replacing retiring Archbishop Stanley Ntagali who was elected as Archbishop on December 16, 2012 at the age of 57, taking over from Henry Luke Orombi.
Though Archbishops are mandated to serve a maximum of ten years, Ntagali was next year clocking the recommended retirement age. Ntagali will be turning 65 years old on March 1, 2020.
38 Bishops in the House of Bishops voted for the candidates that included; Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa of Ankole Diocese, Bishop Samuel George Bogere Egesa from Bukedi and Bishop Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu from Mityana.
The Bishop-elect will not officially become the Archbishop until he is enthroned as the Archbishop. The ceremony is slated to take place on Sunday, March 1st 2020 at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.
