Life works in mysterious ways! Over two weeks ago, a photo of Ssuubi Henry Kiyimba walking to University Hall in Makerere University with a metallic suitcase and a “Usofia” luggage bag aimed at bullying, trolling and ridiculing him in exchange with cheap internet likes and retweets surfaced on Twitter.
In an interesting and mysterious turn of things, the photo attracted a lot of sympathy from the right-thinking members of the general public and looked out for Ssuubi to lend him a helping hand in whatever he might have been lacking.
Among the gifts Ssuubi got was a backpack from Makerere Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, a brand new laptop, edibles, and his number was shared for well-wishers to send him cash in any amount they could afford. This initiative was spearheaded by Allan Kasujja and Cedric Babu.
Ssuubi’s good luck and blessings are still hovering over him as companies and individuals still pour in with opportunities for the freshman.
The latest addition to these is Joadah Consult; one of the leading infrastructure consultancy companies in Sub-Sahara Africa that has offered Ssuubi a full scholarship for a course in Mechanical Engineering at Makerere University.
“Joadah Consult and Development Infrastructure would like to give our official offer for a full scholarship for Mr Ssuubi Henry Kiyimba for a course in Mechanical Engineering in Makerere University. We would be glad to have a Memorandum of Understanding signed between us, the University and the student,” A letter from Joadah Consult addressed to Makerere University Vice Chancellor reads in part.
Whereas some people use social media to do all the wrong things, Ssuubi’s story shows that it can actually bring about social change if used right.
