Police refutes claims Ziggy Wine was abducted, says he died from injuries caused by a fatal bodaboda accident

Police has this evening revealed the results of their investigations about the demise of a one Michael Kalinda popularly known as Ziggy Wine.

Towards the end of last week, news broke out that Ziggy’s health was in a sorry state and he was pronounced dead a day later. Reports have since broken out that he was abducted by unknown people, tortured, cut off his fingers and plucked out his eye.

A police media statement has refuted all those claims. According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, police investigations show that on July 21, Ziggy was involved in a fatal bodaboda accident along the Northern Bypass in the area between Kyebando and Kaleerwe.

Ziggy was badly injured beyond recognition and good Samaritans rushed him to Hope clinic in Kyebando who gave him first aid and referred him to Mulago National Referral Hospital casuality ward. Enanga also said that the injuries were mostly on the right side of Ziggy’s body that made him lose his eye and fingers.

On reaching Mulago, Ziggy needed a CT scan and expertise from Nsambya Hospital so he was transferred there, and referred back to Mulago when his condition was deteriorating until the night of August 4 when he breathed his last.

“We conclude that there was no motive in the death of Kalinda. It was purely accidental. We caution politicians to stop politicizing this incident because there are better ways of looking for votes,” Enanga partly said.

Enanga went on to say that they have the motorcycle exhibits at Kyebando police station and have witnesses that testified to the matter.
