If you don’t agree with what court is doing, stop going there – Justice Minister Otafiire

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Kahinda Otafiire has condemned the assault of a judicial officer, Grade One Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu that happened in court during the sentencing of Stella Nyanzi. He says they will not tolerate violence anywhere near the temples of justice.

“In the hierarchy of court, whoever is dissatisfied with the ruling of the court has the right to appeal to a higher court but not to engage in the physical attack of the presiding officer,” Otafiire said this afternoon during an address at Media Center.

Otafiire states that all Judicial Officers should be seen as only mediators between two opposing views and not as part of the conflict between the parties.

The furious minister advised individuals that do not agree with court to stop running there and find other means if any. He said court is mandated to solve conflict and it does its duties independently.

Six suspects namely; Augustine Ojobile, Abdallah Waiswa, Joel Kabali, Simoni Wanyera, Fatuma Abenabyo, and Moses Katumba who were arrested in connection to throwing a bottle to the magistrate were charged yesterday with assault, malicious damage, and contempt of court before being remanded to Luzira.
