Aboard Emirates Airways, jolly Uganda She Cranes team yesterday touched down at Entebbe International Airport. The team was then hosted by the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni at the Nakasero State House for dinner.
“I really thank God for you as we celebrate your clean performance at the 2019 world cup in Liverpool. I don’t doubt that you will continue to go from good to better and from better to best. You have consistently improved and strengthened our faith in you and our pride as a nation, ” Janet said.
Janet applauded the team for their heroic representation of Uganda at the 2019 Netball World Cup in England. She promised timelier funding for the team to avoid panic and chaos in the camp.
The minister then awarded each player and officials Shs1 million for flying Uganda’s flag high.
She Cranes player Stella Oyella who was named Player of the Match on three occasions against Samoa, Scotland and Zimbabwe, said the World Cup has exposed them to a variety of life changing opportunities. She revealed that their performance will soon land them greener pastures.
“It was not an easy journey but we tried. However we are happy that we have established contacts and are now waiting to be called back for professional stints,” said Oyella.
She Cranes attained their best ever finish at the World Cup. The team finished a place better than their second appearance at the tournament in 2015. They won four and lost four games hence finishing 7th at the world showpiece that was graced by 16 teams.
