If I wasn’t smart, I would have sold the late Ivan Ssemwanga’s unfinished hotels in Kampala because of the debts he left unpaid – Zari recounts hard times after ex-husband’s death

South African-based Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan has opened up on the hard times she has endured ever since her late ex-husband, Ivan Ssemwanga passed on.

During an interview with Tanzania’s Millard Ayo TV on Wednesday, Zari narrated that the property left by the late Ssemwanga that includes two incomplete hotels in Uganda estimated at Shs18.4bn would have been swallowed in debt if she wasn’t smart.

“In Uganda there are two big unfinished hotel buildings worth $5m (about Shs18.4bn). That project stalled because Ivan left a lot of debts which I am still struggling to pay,” Zari said.

“I have fought hard to keep those properties because I am smart,” she added.

The mother of five – three from the Late Ssemwanga also revealed that if she was not a smart woman, their colleges in South Africa would have been closed.

The socialite however admitted that the real estate arm of their business slowed down drastically partly due to the huge debts and other family responsibilities she has taken on since the late died over two years ago.
