Disturbing people’s peace on social media has of late become a very big crime in Uganda. The latest person to allegedly commit such a big crime is Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Magoola Salim Jamal.

Local football governing body Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA)’s Disciplinary Committee has today summoned Salim Jamal for disturbing Member of Parliament Odonga Otto’s peace on social media.

According to FUFA, the social media exchange between Salim Jamal and Otto that happened a fortnight ago put football to shame.

“It is alleged that while in Uganda Cranes camp in Egypt, you communicated through your twitter account to the Member of Parliament of the Republic of Uganda. The alleged comments which are well within your knowledge were improper and/or abusive and/or insulting brought the game of football into disrepute contrary to the FUFA Rules and Communication code,” reads part of the summon letter to Salim Jamal.

The letter FUFA sent to Salim Jamal

Jamal has therefore been instructed to appear before the committee tomorrow, Monday.

“In case you fail to appear, the panel shall determine the matter with information at its disposal,” it stated.

When Uganda Cranes players decided to strike over unpaid money at AFCON in Egypt, the Aruu County MP Otto through his twitter account accused Salim Jamal, Nickolas Wadada, Godfrey Walusimbi and Allan Kateraga for spearheading the strike.

Jamal immediately replied to the MP saying; “With due respect of your position, I think you had to get the right information from the captain. I earn more than these peanuts monthly. And it’s not taxpayer money like what you earn from Parliament. Respect my name and get informed well.”
