2019 Netball World Cup: Uganda She Cranes qualify for second round after finishing second in Group D

The Uganda She Cranes started their 2019 Netball World Cup campaign with a defeat to England Roses on Friday but they have bounced back with full force.

All is going well for them as they have earlier today managed to qualify for the second stage. This came after the She Cranes won their second game against Scotland by 52-43.

Stella Oyella and inspirational captain Peace Proscovia’s shooting accuracy were key to Uganda’s advancement to the next stage. The game between Uganda and Scotland was a straight shootout for second place in the group and Uganda showed command of the game from the opening quarter as they led by 16-11.

By halftime, Uganda had already extended their lead to eight goals since the score stood at 29-21. The girls did not lose momentum even in the last two quarters of the game hence being able to maintain the lead at full time.

The win guaranteed the girls a second place finish in Group D, behind hosts England who won all their group games. Yesterday Uganda beat Samoa 69-48 to ensure their first victory at the 2019 Netball World Cup

So far Uganda and Malawi and Zimbabwe are the only African countries that have secured a place in the next round. South Africa who play later today also stand a chance to qualify. The next round starts tomorrow on Monday.
