Saudi Arabian tourist drowns in River Nile, fishermen demand Shs 5m to find the body

Looks like it’s sad days for Ugandan tourism. A Saudi Arabian tourist identified as Alsubaje Mathkar Nasser has been reported to have drowned in River Nile at Kalagala Falls, Kayunga district, over the weekend.

A brother of the reportedly drowned Saudi Arabian tourist speaks to a police officer.

According to the local fishermen, the tourist slid from a rock that sits in the river and the waters immediately wash him away.

We understand marine police has been on a mission to recover his body but they are yet to meet any success. Speaking on what the Police is doing, Joseph Mugisa, the force’s Director of Fire & Rescue Services, reveals that in order to increase their chances of success, they have involved the locals in the search.

“We are going to continue with the search. We have alerted the local fisher men that know this area very well to help us in the search,” Mugisa says.

Some sources, however, reckon that the local fishermen should know about the body’s whereabouts but they first want to be paid in order to present it.  Apparently, they have demand for Shs5million to find the body, saying the water is rough and so the body won’t be easy to find.
