Mr. Richard Kawesa, a local musician and music producer, has dragged President Yoweri Museveni to the High court demanding for Shs5 billion in compensation for the latter’s illegal talking of full ownership of the hit-song ‘Another Rap.’ . In a suit filed by Kawesa, he says him and President Museveni have failed to reach agreement regarding the 2010 project on which he (Kawesa) produced the ‘Another Rap’ song that the president used in his 2011 general election campaign.

Kawesa explains in his suit that the president went further to copyright the song with Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) as his own without Kawesa’s consent. Kawesa argues that his musical works cannot be just wasted yet they birthed Museveni’s lyrics of his single hit-song. He asked court to issue compensatory orders to both Museveni & URSB and they must be made with a 21 per cent interest from 2010 when the song was produced.

The High Court has replied to Kawesa’s suit by sending summon letters to both Museveni and URSB demanding for their defence within 15 days and failure to do so, the suit will proceed and judgment made without their physical presence.
