Aruu County MP Odonga Otto has scoffed at the Inspector General Of Government’s recommendation to the Internal Security Organisation to investigate MPs who handled the Bank of Uganda probe for alleged bribery.

Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises last week tabled a report before Parliament pointing at rot in Bank of Uganda over the closure of seven commercial banks.

The report found the Central Bank management largely culpable for breaching the law in closing each of the banks and recommended that the officers involved be made liable for their actions.

In an interesting turn of events, the IGG Irene Mulyagonja that is supposed to be investigating top officials linked to the mess is now interested in investigating the MPs who helped bring the rot to light.

“I don’t care who is investigating me. ISO, CMI, IGG, Police, Arrow Boys or Flying Squad. What I care about is how the mafias are seemingly taking over the country that the IGG is now more interested in those investigating the thieves and not the thieves,” Odonga Otto tweeted.

Masaka Municaplity MP Mathias Mpuuga said the IGG can no longer be taken seriously after she sought to pass on a matter that requires investigation to ISO whose primary objective is intelligence gathering.

Though the report didn’t mention particular names, MPs expected the IGG to investigate several officials like Deputy Governor Louis Kasekende, Former Executive Director Commercial Bank Supervision Justine Bagyenda, Director for Financial Markets Development Coordination Benedict Ssekabira and Legal Counsel Margaret Kasule.
