Barely 4 months after its launch, the Nile Bridge is under renovation after developing cracks

The Nile bridge under renovation

It’s barely four months since President Yoweri Museveni officially commissioned the state of art Nile Bridge, however, news reaching us indicates that the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has blocked part of the bridge for renovation after it developed cracks and peeled off.

According to UNRA, the Contractors at the Source of the Nile Bridge in Jinja in the past week have been conducting several tests and established that the damage is not intense.  They say the wearing course is a nonstructural attachment and therefore not a defect on the bridge.

The UNRA communication notice also says that the course will immediately be replaced with permanent tarmac as soon as investigation on structural behaviour is concluded and baseline data is formed.  It urges that the ongoing exercise shall not interrupt the flow of traffic on the bridge.
