People Power die-hards milk apology from defiant Besigye
Four-time presidential candidate, Dr. Kiiza Besigye was forced to apologise to People Power kingpin and Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine after he associated a term he affectionately uses for citizen participation for a tribal/sectarian sentiment.
In his speech to FDC leaders from Kampala Division, Besigye noted that some political actors are using tribal/sectarian sentiments to fuel their struggle pointing to the Luganda term “Mwebereremu” which has been heard several times from the People Power man.
Besigye was thereafter wrapped by several opposition actors on social media and soon apologised saying that he did not even know that Bobi Wine coined the term.
“I’ve since realised that some people understood what I said as an attack on Bobi Wine, because, apparently he uses it frequently. I can certainly say that I’ve never heard him use the word for negative purposes. That’s why I sincerely apologise to all who felt that this was my intention,” Besigye said in a statement.
