Following a successful Division IV excursion where the Uganda’s Cricket Cranes emerged champions, the boys will today, November 9 bat off in the World Cricket League Division III qualifiers in Oman at Al Emarat Cricket Stadium in Muscat.
Six teams including Uganda will be battling for the two Division II promotion slots. Cricket Cranes open the campaign against Denmark on Friday before taking on USA on Saturday, November 10. The boys will then be back on the turf on Tuesday, November 13 taking on neigbours Kenya. Singapore and hosts Oman will be our last two opponents on Thursday, November 15 and Sunday, November 18 respectively.
Team captain Roger Mukasa is confident the boys can afford to pull it up as he vowed to deliver at the team’s flagging off event last week.
“This tournament means a lot not to just to us but the cricket fraternity as a whole. We have prepared hard and we want to be back in Division II playing with the big boys,” he said.
Oman and Kenya are the top seeds while Uganda, Singapore and USA are the new joiners of the division. With the top two destined for promotion, the bottom two will be relegated to Division IV.
