Wearing socks during sex has long been a contentious subject. Some say it is gross and collage-like, and others say they just want to use them to keep cosy.
A scientific study though might finally, finally settle the great debate: Wearing socks during sex is not only totally fine, it may make sex even better. And aren’t we always looking for ways to make sex better?
Researchers at the University of Groningen found that 80% of couples reached orgasm while wearing socks while only half that number managed to climax without socks.
Professor Gert Holstege and his colleagues at the Dutch university asked 13 couples between the ages of 19 and 49 to participate in the experiment.
It was a staged environment, and the temperature may have affected the results. At first, only 50 per cent of the couples achieved orgasm.
Thinking maybe they were cold, Holstege gave everyone socks to wear during the next round of the experiment. While wearing the socks, about 80 per cent successfully climaxed. That’s a 30 per cent increase, just from adding socks to the equation.
Their reasoning is simple: wearing socks, in addition to keeping you warm, help the blood vessels in your feet dilate, allowing for improved blood flow. This not only helps you doze off more quickly, but it also facilitates earth-shattering orgasms.
Stock up on the socks, so that next time your significant other, booty call or what have you wants to try something crazy, bust out those socks and tell her how it works.
