The Uganda Police must operate on the “never underestimate your opponent” strategy.

Just when Ugandans thought that the just returned Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake was going to have it easy at Entebbe International Airport, police had other plans.

According to his wife, Bridget Namirembe, as soon as the plane touched base at around 7:20 am, the military did not allow him to step on the tarmac.

“Police officers were on standby and they immediately picked Zaake from the plane and put him in a waiting police van which sped-off. When I tried to get off the plane and follow, I was told by airport authorities that I would be arrested and I was informed our luggage was also taken,” she said.

A frail Zaake told the media at his home that his situation has worsened after the police manhandled him as they forced him into the waiting van before he was whisked away.

That alleged brutality, however, has done nothing to dampen the mood of his supporters in Mityana who are currently jubilating in celebration of the return of their legislator.

Zaake was India to seek specialized treatment after he was reportedly tortured in Arua on August 13 where he was arrested alongside Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi and 33 others for pelting the presidential convoy with stones.

He is facing treason charges and alleged escape from police custody in Arua.
