Disaster has struck in the hilly Eastern Uganda district in Bududa after heavy rains caused landslides that have according to an eyewitness washed down five villages in Bukalasi Sub-county – including a school – Sume Junior School.
According to Eric Mukhwana, a resident of Mbale, over 200 people are feared dead as the landslide swept five villages in the same parish on Thursday afternoon.
“Some were buried in the rubble, others swept into the water streams. Nine bodies have so far been recovered,” he said.
