Speaking to the parliamentary defence committee, Mwesigye stated that the LDU will also be entitled to Shs1.2m retirement package when the demobilised by the Uganda People’s Defence Force, the security organ in-charge of the group.
The UPDF is currently carrying out recruitment for the 24,000 LDUs that will be deployed to provide security services at community level in districts of Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso.
According to Gen. David Muhoozi, the Chief of Defence Forces, the LDUs will dress in UPDF gazette uniform.
