A survey conducted on 15,000 sexually active people in Glasgow, Scotland found that are more likely to inflate their sexual partners than their female counterparts.
Men, it turned out, claimed an average of 14 sexual partners over their lifetime, while women reported only seven. The people surveyed were between the ages of 16 and 74.
The research shows that men take gratification in the fact that they have more sexual partners yet women fear judgement.
“Given that there are significantly more women in the population than men, men are reporting higher numbers and women are reporting lower numbers due to the fear of being judged negatively, while men might overreport in order to be looked at more favourably, sex therapist Rachel Needle said.
