Great Lakes Safaris boss Amos Wekesa revealed yesterday on NTV that the current political climate is taking a toll on Uganda’s tourism industry.
While speaking about the protests and negative publicity the country is receiving over the highly- publicised torture, trial detention of popular legislator Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, several MPs and civilians, he revealed that several tourists have cancelled their bookings.
“My company alone has been forced to refund $258,000 (About Shs971m) to tourists that had booked and feared to come here”, he stated.
Amos noted that security is key to development of the tourism sector.
In a 2017 interview with Forbes, Amos Wekesa revealed that his company generates over $6m (about Shs.21b) annually.
