This morning family and friends of former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura, have flocked the General Court Martial in Makindye for the hearing of his bail application.
According to sources, Kayihura lawyers have presented 11 issues that they hope will convince court to grant their client bail. Among the listed grounds for bail include; the former IGP being the only bread winner for his family and once left in detention, they might starve.
Other grounds include;it’s a constitutional right to apply for bail, charged with bail-able offenses, been in unlawful detention since June 13 and was only charged last Friday, has substantial sureties, he is of advanced age (62), has never been charged or convicted of any criminal offence before, strong belief in his innocence and that he is ready to prove that whenever the trial commences, , has a fixed place of abode in Muyenga, Kampala, has a health complication that needs specialised treatment, and will not abscond court.
The hearing is ongoing and we shall keep you posted for any development.
