The Alliance for Change and Transparency Party (ACT Wazalendo), a Tanzanian opposition party has written to President Museveni demanding the release of detained Kyadondo MP, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) to access further treatment.
In a letter to the President dated August 20, 2018, the party’s leader and MP Hon. Kabwe Zuberi Ruyangwa Zitto said that he has been following the political situation in Uganda closely and is alarmed at the rate with which the political space has deteriorated.
“We urge you to release Bobi Wine and other MPs for they have done nothing wrong and, we urge you to stop harassing opposition leaders,” part of the letter read.
Zitto further told Museveni that, “as a senior leader in East Africa, with revolutionary credentials, you are expected to show high standard in democracy and matters of human dignity.”
“As Tanzanians who hosted and supported you during your struggles against the dictatorship, we kindly urge that you drop all charges against Bobi Wine and his colleagues and allow Kassiano Wadri to take his seat as Member of Parliament,” he added.
In related news, a section of Kenyans, led by activist Boniface Mwangi, is set to hold a march to the Ugandan Embassy in Nairobi to demand the release of Bobi Wine and other political prisoners.
