Over the weekend,  rumours circulated on social media claiming that IGP Okoth Ochola had asked to resign but President Museveni threatened him saying ‘resignation is not an option’. Addressing the press,  IGP refuted the claims.

IGP at an earlier press briefing

“There are rumours circulating in the social media that I tendered in my resignation and the President refused, that information is false. The public should disregard that falsehood. Why should I resign when the security situation in the country is calm? Criminality has greatly reduced,” Ochola said.

He also vehemently warned security officers from employing torture.

“The issue of violence against suspects must stop, we are not going to tolerate any Police Officer who violates the rights of suspects, a suspect is innocent until convicted and sentenced, we have to eradicate torture as an investigative technique and none of you was taught that you have to torture someone in order to get a confession”, he explained.
