Detained Arua Municipality MP Kasiano Wadri is enjoying an early lead in the Arua Municipality MP polls. Kasiano who has also been charged with treason, is leading in most polling stations and is closely trailed by NRM’s Nusura Tiperu.
According to provisional results, Wadri is already boasting of 3,611 votes followed at a respectable distance by Nusura Tiperu with 2,138 votes.
At WENWA and Arua hill polling station in Awindri ward, Arua hill division, Wadri got a total of 156 votes against Tiperu’s 96 votes. While Independent candidates Robert Ejiku and FDC Bruce Musema, garnered 78 votes and 10 votes respectively.
At Niva where there three polling station Wadri scored 181 votes Tiperu got 27 votes, Ejiku, 58 votes while Simon Avutia, Safi Bavuga, Madira, Nyakuni, Nyero and Alekua trailed with 00 votes.
Meanwhile at Husuna F-Z polling station Tiperu secured 69 votes against Wadri 66 votes.
Ejiku 16, Musema, 29, Atima 17, Alfred Nyakuni, Francis Nyero, and Jaffer Alekua scored one votes each and Avutia, Bavuga, Avutia and Kennedy Madira trailed with 00 votes.
Wadri was in parliament for 15 years representing Terego County on FDC ticket; he lost the seat to Moses Angundru in the 2016 general elections.
Arua Municipality has two divisions of Arua Hill and Oli with majority of the voters coming from River Oli division according to the Electoral commission voters’ register 2016.
However, over 46,838 votes are expected to have cast across 65 polling stations.
The Electoral Commission will announce the official results. The winner of the by-election will replace slain NRM legislator Ibrahim Abiriga who was gunned down in June.
