A rift has again hit the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) after former party President Gen Mugisha Muntu and Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) ditched the party candidate Bruce Musema for Kassiano Wadri who is running on an independent ticket.
Without mincing his words, Muntu while campaigning for Wadri earlier this week said that he is “the preferred candidate in the race” and a man with “experience and love for the people.”
“For me, it is beyond the party issues. The people on the ground have said yes to him [Wadri] so who am I, who is in Kampala, to go against that? I do not live there so the people on the ground know whom they want and I had to go by that,” he added.
Muntu’s defiance of the party’s position comes days after the incumbent party president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi dropped the former’s allies in a highly criticised reshuffle.
In related news, a group of Ugandans under the flagship – People Power led by Kyadondo East, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine also announced that they will be campaigning for fellow Independent Kassiano Wadri.
FDC Warns defiant members
FDC Party president, Patrick Amuriat warned defiant party members who are supporting their flagbearer to “choose carefully” between the interests of the party and their own.
The Arua by-election to replace slain MP Ibrahim Abiriga is set for August 15.
