The people of Kisoro have through the office of the Kisoro district Chairperson Mr. Abel Bizimana appealed to President Museveni to “exercise his magnanimity” an order for the immediate release of General Kale Kayihura.
In a letter to the Prime Minister dated July 17, 2018, the Kisoro people claim that Kayihura selflessly served this country in various positions and that he always diligently performed his duties throughout the years without any blemish.
They further expressed concerns about the “unfair treatment Kayihura has endured since his arrest despite the loyalty and unwavering commitment he displayed throughout his entire career.”
‘’The circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention have left many questioning the way the government rewards loyalty. The people of Kisoro have consistently supported NRM and have been proud of the achievements of General Kayihura in his steadfast career and dedicated service to the government. He is also presumed innocent under article 28(3) of the constitution of the Republic of Uganda, ’’ the petition read in part.
Kayihura has been in military detention for a month and four days now.
