17-year-old Ugandan long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo yesterday won silver in the 10,000m race in the ongoing IAAF World Junior Championship happening in Tampere, Finland.
Kiplimo reached the final with the gold-winning tag in his favour, but he only managed to settle for a second place as Kenya’s Rhonex Kipruto snatched his gold win in the last lap after posting 27:21.08.
Our own Kiplimo was just 19 seconds behind Kipruto despite leading the pack right from the start.
Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi won bronze after posting his personal best of 27:48.41. In the same race, Uganda had another participant Victor Kiplangat.
The teenager finished just three positions away from the medal bracket but he attained a great positive to keep him yearning for more as he posted a personal best of 28:42.77.
