It is only two rounds into the Guinness National Sevens Series but Buzz Pirates are making a statement with two leg wins on the spin. Like they did in the first around, the Sea Robbers came out on top once again in Jinja with a 26-5 win over Hippos in the final.
Winning the third leg on Saturday when the series return to Kyadondo with Toyota Buffaloes hosting, would put some distance between them and the rest of the pack, making them outright favourites to win a maiden Sevens National Series since their birth in 1996.
While Pirates are enjoying the view of the log from the summit, Heathens, Betway Kobs and Buffaloes who come off as credible challengers , have their work cut out with four rounds left after Saturday. For any of the trio to knock Pirates of the perch, the task starts on Saturday. Buffaloes could only manage a last four finish in Jinja but with home advantage they can go all the way. After Saturday, the series take a two weeks’ rest before heading to Mbarara.
