Word on the rumour mill is that the Royal Ascot Goat Races, which used to be the biggest event on Uganda’s social calendar are back. Modelled after the Royal Ascot Horse Races in the United Kingdom, the event was the place to be seen at, but it hasn’t been held in the past five years.
Now Kampala party animals are eagerly awaiting this year’s races after word going around that they could be on come August 25. In fact, fashion and elaborate hats being one of the races’ mainstays, people are already shopping for their outfits.
The event used to be organised by the Ruparelia family at their Speke Resort Munyonyo. When contacted, Munyonyo could not confirm the development as they instead told us to eagerly look forward to next weekend’s Johnnie Walker Jazz Safari that is confirmed to be held at Munyonyo.
However, the tone of the official we spoke to told us that the races will indeed be on as he didn’t entirely dismiss the idea that the races are back.
