The authorities reportedly required $800 each (about Shs3m) to  release and deport the victims. They were thus tasked to pay the dues.

During the course of outsourcing money, it’s said Mutoni developed what they thought was a simple fever, however, days later she was announced dead. She had reportedly contracted pneumonia.

Police in Thailand reportedly reached out to the Ugandan authorities in Thailand but none has details of Mutoni. Some think she illegally acquired a Ugandan passport.
